Rossett School has donated more than £4,000 to two chosen charities following this year’s Sponsored Walk.
The annual Rossett Red Sponsored Walk returned on Friday 27th June, raising £8,800 to be split between Horticap and New Beginnings.
And this week representatives from the charities visited the school to be presented with their donations.
A spokesperson for Horticap said:
“We were thrilled to receive a cheque for over £4,400 from Rossett School, being the proceeds raised from their sponsored walk, which benefitted New Beginnings Peer Support and Horticap!
“Amazing effort, for which we're very grateful!”
The annual walk, marking its 30th year, saw over 500 students and staff - including 442 from Years 7–10 - take on a 12 km circular route through the Harrogate countryside, from RHS Harlow Carr through Valley Gardens and back to school.
Participants walked a combined total of 5,304 km, the equivalent of traveling from Harrogate to New York.
Rossett Headteacher, Mr Tim Milburn said:
“The Rossett Sponsored Walk is a proud tradition of ours. I did it when I was a student at this school, so it was fantastic to see it return in its 30th year with such energy and enthusiasm.
“I would like to thank all of our students for their positivity and commitment, our staff and Sixth Form marshals for their support, and in particular Mr Mark Bulmer for leading and organising such a successful and meaningful day for the whole school community.”
Mark Bulmer, Assistant Headteacher and event organiser, said:
“This event really showcases the very best of Rossett School. To have walked the equivalent distance to New York is truly incredible, but what matters most is the purpose behind it, raising money and awareness for two inspiring local charities.
“The students showed real determination, resilience, and care throughout the walk, not just for each other, but for the causes they were walking for.”
