Passengers travelling between Knaresborough and York face disruption this autumn as major rail improvement work takes place over three consecutive weekends.
The Harrogate to York line will close for nine days from Saturday 25th October to Sunday 2nd November, with replacement buses running instead of trains.
Network Rail says the closure will allow essential repairs at Cattal signal box, renewal of track and crossings, and wider upgrades to improve safety and reliability.
Other projects will affect services across the region, including sleeper and ballast replacement near Tollerton, new track at Holgate Junction and drainage works north of York.
Sam MacDougall, Network Rail operations director, said:
“While we understand that changes to services can be disruptive, this work is vital to keep the network running safely and smoothly for years to come.
“We’re working closely with train operators to keep people moving and thank everyone for their patience while we carry out these improvements.”
Investment is also being made at Nether Poppleton level crossing, which will close to vehicles on 25th and 26th October, and at Heck sidings between Selby and Doncaster.
The work means a range of timetable changes for operators including Northern, LNER, TransPennine Express, CrossCountry, Grand Central and Hull Trains, with diversions and replacement bus services in place.
A spokesperson for the train operating companies said:
“Replacement buses and revised timetables will be in place to help people reach their destinations, and we’re encouraging everyone to check before they travel.”
Passengers are urged to check details of their journeys before travelling via National Rail or with their train operators.
