Animal testing protest planned in Harrogate this weekend

Campaigners are set to march through Harrogate this weekend to raise awareness of the use of dogs in laboratory testing.

The peaceful march will begin at Harrogate Cenotaph at 1pm on Saturday (12th September).

It's being organised by supporters of Save The Dogs UK and will take place alongside similar demonstrations in London and the United States.

Organisers said the Harrogate event will focus on animal testing carried out at Labcorp in the town.

Save The Dogs UK campaigns to end the use of dogs in laboratory testing and supports greater investment in non-animal research methods.

It is also calling for stronger welfare protections and responsible rehoming arrangements for research dogs which are no longer required.

The group said more than 1,500 letters had been sent to MPs through its campaign platform, prompting cross-party engagement over the welfare of dogs used in research.

Labcorp says animal research plays an important role in developing safe and effective medicines and products.

The company also states that it is committed to treating animals humanely and adhering to strict standards of ethical conduct and welfare.

The march is expected to be peaceful and aims to raise public awareness of the campaign.
