A Harrogate athlete representing Great Britain secured a top ten placing at the World Para Powerlifting Championships yesterday (Sunday).
Charlotte 'Lottie' McGuinness competed at the event in Cairo, finishing in 10th place after lifting a best of 106kg in the women’s ‘up to 55kg’ class.
The world title went to Nigeria’s Esther Oyema, who recorded a winning lift of 125kg.
Besra Duman of Turkey claimed silver with 121kg and Russia’s Tamara Podpalnaia took bronze.
Lottie’s 10th-place effort marked her strongest showing at a world championship.

Lottie McGuinness was emotional after completing her 106kg lift.
Lottie competed at the 2024 Paris Paralympics, where she recorded a personal best of 105kg and narrowly missed out on a podium finish.
Earlier in 2025 she broke the British record twice at the Irish Invitational, lifting 102kg, 107kg and 110kg in the 61kg category.
The 2025 World Championships, held from 10th to 18th October, is the 11th edition of the tournament and the first to take place in Africa.
The event attracted hundreds of athletes from across the globe vying for world titles across weight classes.
