Luxury Harrogate hotel has raised more than £2,000 for charity as part of an Olympic-inspired swimming challenge.
To mark the 100 day countdown to the Olympics, Rudding Park joined forces with Hotshots – Harrogate District Swimming Club’s Disability Squad – to embark on a fun charity swimming challenge.
The ‘Swim to Paris Challenge’ saw participants swim 1000m, 1500m or 2000m last night (Wednesday) with the aim being that the combined distance would reach 787km - the distance from Harrogate to Paris.
Over 30 participants took part in the final leg of the swim, including Foundation & Hotshots from HDSC, Rudding Park members and employees.
Nick Mackaness, Rudding Park Managing Director said:
“As a business we are committed to supporting our local community and given we are in an Olympic year, it’s was only right we set ourselves an appropriate challenge!
"I heard about the amazing ‘Hotshots’ squad last year and felt it was a brilliant opportunity to join forces, hosting a challenge at the swimming pool in The Spa.
"I am delighted it’s become a reality and through the challenge we have raised over £2,000 for Hotshots."
Based at Brimhams Active in Harrogate, Hotshot's aim is to ensure their squad can be healthier and more active so they can enjoy a happier and more independent life.
Brian Charlton from Harrogate District Swimming Club said:
“As a club our long term vision is to provide a comprehensive programme covering competitive swimming, whilst also providing for those who just want to train for fitness, enjoyment or to compete in other disciplines, incorporating Masters and Disability swimming.
"The Hotshots squad encompass all those visions and with the support from Rudding Park this will allow us to support the squad with classifications, competition entries and help build the squad back to the size it was pre-Covid."
