Record GCSE results announced at Harrogate Ladies’ College

Harrogate Ladies College.

Harrogate Ladies’ College, (soon to be Duchy College) has reported its strongest set of GCSE results to date.

The school have achieved a record 22% of all grades awarded at the top level of 9.

More than a third of pupils achieved five or more grades between 9 and 7.

Performance across subjects varied, with 80% of Physics grades and 81% of Creative Arts grades (Art and Textiles) at 9–7. In addition, 22% of pupils in Creative Arts achieved full marks.

Principal Joanna Fox said the results reflected both the work of students and the support of staff.

“As a largely non-selective school, we are exceptionally proud of our pupils’ progress, which is down to the pupils’ hard work and the expertise and dedication of our incredible teachers.

"To achieve a record percentage of 9s and a value-added average of plus one is an outstanding result.”

She added that the students collecting their results this summer will be the first to complete A levels at Duchy College in two years’ time, as the school prepares to move towards a co-educational model.

Among those returning for Sixth Form in September is India Thomas, who achieved ten grade 9s, including a perfect score in Textiles.

“I am so happy with my GCSE results, and achieving all 9s is a dream come true,”

Reewa Bennett achieved nine grade 9s, with four of them in Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

She said:

“I have worked so hard up until this point, and I’m really proud of my results.

"Today is a great opportunity to celebrate with my friends, before we begin Sixth Form in September.”

The college said pupils on average achieved one grade higher than their baseline predictions, a measure the school considers a key indicator of progress.
