Families are being offered a glimpse of the first phase in the transformation of Ashville College's 70-acre campus when it stages its Open Morning this weekend.
Parents and children - aged from two to 18 - are welcome to join over 130 families who have already registered to attend the event at Ashville College between 9.30am and 12pm on Saturday (28th September) when refurbishments made already will be on show.
As it adds pace and scale to its strategic vision of being the dedicated day school of choice in Harrogate, completed projects include new social and study spaces created specifically for GCSE pupils in Years 10 and 11, and a new reception area for the Prep School.
The school already boasts a dedicated Sixth Form Centre, an Outdoor Learning Area, a Health and Wellness Centre, IT suites, arts and drama spaces and a sports centre which underwent a £3.8m refurbishment in 2017.
Head of Ashville, Rhiannon Wilkinson, says the college recognises it must continue to ensure the highest quality academic and sporting facilities if it’s to keep pace with modern demands.
She said:
“It is so important that schools, many of which exist in Victorian buildings like ours, are re-worked for modern teaching and learning and personal growth and development.
“A modern school is not simply a place for teaching basic skills – reading, writing and mathematics – and preparation for public examinations.
“It’s also a place which identifies the skills, talents, ideas and capacities young people need to develop to face the challenges and opportunities of the 21st Century and provides ways to nurture them in its pupils.”
Visitors on Saturday September 28 will be able to see first-hand the eye-catching new dedicated learning spaces designed to help pupils study, concentrate, and develop their ability to learn for their GCSEs autonomously, in a calm and focused way.
The Open Morning includes campus tours of both the new and established facilities led by existing pupils while Mrs Wilkinson will also be giving a personal address. There is the opportunity to meet Ashville staff across all areas.
