The organisers of the Nidderdale Walk are setting their sights on a huge charity event once again after smashing the £1million barrier.
The annual event is set to return on Sunday 18th May, hosted by the Rotary Club of Harrogate and supported by Verity Frearson Estate Agents.
A total of 449 walkers and runners took part in last year’s 30th anniversary event, raising over £31,000 – a 30% increase on the previous year.
This took the overall total since 1994 past the £1 million mark - and the event's organisers have said they'd love to see this figure raised again.
Verity Frearson have signed up as lead sponsor, covering the Rotary’s costs and helping to promote the event.
Brian Stuttard, Chairman of the walk committee, said:
“The sole purpose of this Rotary event is to provide fundraisers with well organised, waymarked walks with checkpoints along the way to enable them to raise money for their own charities.
“We do the preparation… you raise sponsorship by walking or running.”
He added:
“We would like to say a big thank you to all those who have taken part in previous years and to have now raised over £1,000,000 is truly astonishing.
“A huge thank you to the team at Verity Frearson for joining us again this year and helping with the costs and promotion of the event, we are delighted to have them on board for what promises to be a special weekend in the glorious Nidderdale countryside.”
Verity Frearson director, Matthew Stamford, said:
“We are absolutely delighted to support the Nidderdale Walk again this year.
“Our team thoroughly enjoyed the walk last year and were thrilled to help the Rotary Club of Harrogate reach their £1m milestone.
“Last year we did the 15 mile route but might tackle the 18 mile version this year!”
The walk begins in Pateley Bridge and heads into upper Nidderdale.
Participants can choose one of six routes, ranging between 4 and 26 miles, with routes passing through Wath, Ramsgill, Lofthouse, Gouthwaite, Fountains Earth Moor, and Scar House Reservoir.
Due to the Verity Frearson sponsorship, this year’s entry fees will be paid out to local charities currently supported by the Rotary Club of Harrogate.
