A Pride event will be held in Harrogate during the bank holiday weekend after the town's Pride parade was cancelled earlier this year.
New LGBTQIA+ event to be held in Harrogate this weekend A new LGBTQIA+ event will be held in Harrogate this weekend after this year's Pride parade was cancelled. Due to a lack of volunteers, Harrogate's Pride event was cancelled in May, meaning the parade has not gone ahead since 2019. But on Saturday 26th August, a new Pride social event will be held at The Geek Retreat from 12pm before moving to Major Tom's Social from 7pm. The event has been organised by Craig Joynson and his wife Rea, who launched the Harrogate Pride Events Facebook page following the cancellation of Pride in Diversity's parade. Craig told Your Harrogate:
"It's not a Pride parade but a social event for LGBTQIA+ and their allies to come together knowing it’s a safe place. "The public response has been amazing. Many local businesses have also look to put their weight behind it too."Both The Geek Retreat and Major Tom's Social will be free to enter and will host various DJ performers, LGBTQ+ stalls and in store offers. All ages are welcome to the event at Geek Retreat but the event at Major Tom's Social will be 18+ only. Find out more about Harrogate Pride Events and their upcoming dates here.
