Several local attractions across the Harrogate area are closed today (Monday) ahead of strong winds and heavy rain from Storm Floris.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning - in place from 6am today until 6am tomorrow - covering much of northern England and Scotland.
Forecasters are predicting wind gusts of up to 50mph inland, with even stronger conditions on higher ground and exposed areas.
In response to the forecast, RHS Garden Harlow Carr in Harrogate has announced that its woodland will remain closed throughout the day.
‘The Great Woodland Adventure’ summer activities will be moved to the Sunley Room in the Learning Centre.
Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal, operated by the National Trust, is also closed today.
All scheduled events on the site have been cancelled, and visitors are being advised not to travel.
Thorp Perrow Arboretum, near Bedale, is another site affected by the storm.
The arboretum has confirmed it will not open today due to high winds and associated safety risks.
Storm Floris
Storm Floris is expected to bring unseasonably strong winds across large parts of the UK, with coastal areas potentially seeing gusts up to 85mph.
In addition to the wind, heavy rain may cause localised flooding and travel disruption.
Local authorities are advising residents to secure outdoor items such as bins and garden furniture, prepare for possible power outages, and check travel updates before making any journeys.
Delays and cancellations to rail, road, and air services are possible as the storm progresses.
