Knaresborough play area reopens following revamp

Meadowside Academy pupils were the first to try out the new-look Mint Garth play area.

A popular Knaresborough play area has reopened following a "refresh."

The new-look Mint Garth play area on the Hay a Park estate was officially unveiled this afternoon (Friday).

The new design has aimed to make “much better use of the space” and has a lot of new play equipment aimed at younger children.

The reopening was attended by Knaresborough Town Councillors Hannah Gostlow and Andy Bell, who have worked with North Yorkshire Council on the project.

And children from Meadowside Academy were among the first to try out the new equipment.

Cllr Hannah Gostlow told Your Harrogate:

“We’re so pleased, it’s just such a better use of space and it’s so lovely to see it being enjoyed already.

“It’s brightened up the area and it’s just what these children needed.”

This improvement to the play area has been funded by "Section 106" money that came from the developer of the estate in 2007.

Andy Bell, Town Councillor for Scriven Park, said:

“We became aware that there was money to be spent on this play park, which had become a little bit tired and under-utilised, so we grasped that opportunity and a few months later, thanks to the hard work of the council, here we are.”

Cllr Lee Jones, Parks and Grounds Development Officer, said:

“The area before was tired and the play value of the equipment wasn’t great, and that’s why we started this project, to make it more accessible and more user-friendly.

"It’s just fantastic to see so many people come down here today.”
