New operators are being sought to take over one of Harrogate's oldest pubs.
Greene King Pub Partners is inviting applications to run The Squinting Cat on Lund House Green as it prepares to make a substantial investment in the venue.
The pub is moving from a managed house to Greene King’s leased and tenanted model, giving its next operators the opportunity to take the business in a new direction.
Plans include modernising the pub, improving the customer experience and removing its existing soft play facility.
A spokesperson for Greene King said:
"We are working closely to support our team members at the Squinting Cat as a potential closure is considered.
"Making the decision to close a pub is never an easy one and multiple factors are always considered before a final outcome is agreed.
"In the longer term, we plan to transfer the Squinting Cat to our highly successful leased and tenanted model, ensuring the venue remains a vital hub within the local community."
Greene King wants to reposition The Squinting Cat as a premium, food-led destination with a more adult-friendly atmosphere.
The company said the opportunity would best suit an experienced, hands-on operator with a distinctive food offering and the ability to attract customers from across the area.
The pub features a large central bar and seating for around 140 customers, along with a trade kitchen.
It also has a large car park, beer garden and patio areas at the front and rear.
The Squinting Cat currently attracts local residents and families from nearby housing, as well as customers travelling from further afield.
Greene King believes there is potential to move away from the pub’s current value-led and sports-focused offering by developing a stronger dining experience.
It said the ambition is to establish the venue as a popular choice for meals, drinks and special occasions.
Private accommodation is included and comprises two bedrooms, a kitchen, lounge, bathroom, toilet and office.
The pub remains open and trading at this time.
