A team of under 13 footballers from the Harrogate and Craven districts are set to contend the Champions League Cup final later this month.
The Harrogate & Craven School Boys Football Under 13’s have reached the final of the competition after beating opposition from Rotherham and Wakefield.
The final will be held on Saturday 27th April from 12:30pm at Bridlington Town.
The team comprises of talented young footballers who represent their schools in competitive football matches in the Yorkshire Federation League.
Players come from schools across the district including Ripon Grammar, Harrogate High, Rossett, King James, Ashville, St John Fishers and St Aidan’s.
The boys attended trials back in June 2022, nominated by their PE teachers, and from the hundreds of boys in the district just 24 were selected.
The Harrogate & Craven School Boys team is coached by experienced mentors, giving the players the necessary guidance and support to excel both on and off the field.
Manager Andrew Pears said:
“With a focus on developing young talent and fostering a love for the game, the team is dedicated to honing the boys’ footballing abilities whilst also emphasising the importance of academic excellence and good sportsmanship.
“As the boys continue to grow and develop as athletes, we remain committed to upholding the values of teamwork, respect, and determination, setting a positive example for young football enthusiasts in the region.
More recently, the district team has formed a partnership with Harrogate Town. This has seen the boys support the club on Ball Crew duties.
The team has also decided to introduce an ‘honour’ cap for anyone that has represented the district at competitive level, similar to the cap issued at England international level.
There’s also set to be an end of season awards night on Friday 3rd May, hosted and sponsored by Rudding Park Hotel.
