A swimming prodigy from Harrogate has been offered a prestigious scholarship by Yorkshire Swimming Association.
15-year-old Lois Child has been recognised by the association for her “outstanding achievements” that include numerous podium positions at National Championships.
The annual scholarship is offered to an up-and-coming and promising young swimmer from the Yorkshire Region, aged 14-16 years old, to further their career.
Lois, coached by Julian Harforth, has been a member of Harrogate District Swimming Club for 6 years and has been a part of the National Performance squad from a young age.
Coaches have repeatedly praised her ability, high performance rankings and work ethic.
Lois’ talent has also seen her selected to represent her county at every team event since being eligible, and last year she competed at the Olympic trials.
Harrogate District Swimming Club Representative Brian Charlton said:
“Lois is reliable, committed and always performs her best in every opportunity presented to her, whilst also exhibiting excellent sportsmanship and acting and as a role model for her peers and younger swimmers at the club.
“As a club we couldn’t be prouder of her achievements to date and we look forward to her continued development and success.”
Lois has attended several high-profile Swim England camps and is currently on two Swim England pathways - the National Age Group Development Programme and their Endurance Initiative.
