Harrogate stay and play café announces 'heartbreaking' closure

Brood on Commercial Street is set to close.

A family-run stay and play café in Harrogate has announced it will close later this month.

Brood Coffee House on Commercial Street confirmed that it will cease trading on Saturday 29th November, after efforts to find a new owner were unsuccessful.

The café, which opened two and a half years ago, has been a popular spot for families, offering a space where parents can relax while children play.

Owners Hannah and Mikki said the decision had been a difficult one, citing family commitments and the upcoming arrival of a baby as key factors.

In an emotional video to customers on social media, they said:

"As you can see, we’re both very emotional about this decision and it’s not one that has been taken lightly. But it’s probably what’s best for all of us right now.

“We’ve met some lovely people and watched some beautiful babies grow from tiny babies into 2-year-olds.

“Thank you so much for your support over the last two and a half years, it’s been amazing. We’ve loved every second of it.

“Come and see us as much as you can over the next three weeks so we can say goodbye to you all properly.”

To mark its final weeks, Brood Coffee House will host a second-hand toy sale downstairs, giving families the chance to pick up Christmas gifts while supporting the business.

On its final day, the café will offer a reduced menu and operate on a “pay as you feel” basis.

Brood Coffee House is open Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 4pm and is closed at weekends.
