Harrogate powerlifter selected to represent Team England at Commonwealth Games

Lottie McGuinness will represent Team England at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

A Harrogate powerlifter has been selected to represent Team England at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Lottie McGuinness will compete in the women’s up to 61kg lightweight category and is scheduled to lift on the opening day of the Games on 24th July.

The selection marks her first Commonwealth Games appearance and follows several years of competition at national and international level.

Speaking after her selection was confirmed, Lottie said:

“I’m incredibly honoured and proud to announce my selection to represent Team England at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow

“After being part of the Team England Futures Team in 2022, it feels like a full-circle moment to now have qualified for my first Commonwealth Games.

"I’ve worked so hard for this moment, through every high, every setback, and every sacrifice along the way, and to see it all come together is something I’ll never take for granted.”

Lottie has built a strong reputation in British powerlifting, progressing through age-group and senior competitions and earning selection through performances that met the qualification standards set by Team England.

She said:

“I’m extremely grateful for the support I’ve had throughout this journey.

"So many people have worked incredibly hard to help get me here, and I truly couldn’t have done it alone.

"Like they say, every dream needs a team and I’m so lucky to have mine.”

The 2026 Commonwealth Games will be hosted in Glasgow, with athletes from across the Commonwealth competing in a range of sports over a multi-day programme.

For Lottie, the location adds extra significance, with the Games taking place in front of a home crowd.

Lottie said:

“I’m so excited to compete on home soil, surrounded by family and friends, and I hope to make them proud! It's a moment I’ve dreamed of for so long.”

Tickets for the Games are currently on sale, with powerlifting events taking place across the opening stages of the competition.
