Harrogate has been named the best place in the UK to enjoy a staycation.
Experts at AA analysed destinations across the UK based on local happiness ratings, the availability of car parking spaces, petrol stations, and EV chargers, as well as the number of things to do and places to stay.
And Harrogate came out on top, beating competition from holiday hotspots including Cornwall, Devon or Dorset.
Harrogate received a high happiness rating of 7.8 out of 10 among residents.
AA said the town “promises a cheerful and welcoming atmosphere” for visitors.
They also highlighted the town’s “wealth of amenities” for modern travellers, including plenty of EV charging spots and petrol stations.
A spokesperson said:
“What’s there to do in Harrogate? Well, after a long drive, what’s better than treating yourself to some pampering at one of the many local spas?
“After all, Harrogate is famous for its wellness resorts, so don’t miss out if you’re headed there this year!”
They added:
“Aside from swimming and building up a sweat in the sauna, Harrogate is also great for doing a bit of sightseeing out in nature.
“Why not visit the Brimham Rocks or take a stroll along one of the many hiking routes?
“There are also several gardens full of lush greenery that you can check out (like RHS Garden Harlow Carr or Valley Gardens).”
Stratford-Upon-Avon and Newquay came second and third respectively on AA’s list.
