Harrogate's MP is stepping up his campaign to ‘protect Rotary Wood’ amid Harrogate Spring Water’s proposed expansion.
Liberal Democrat MP Tom Gordon is set to host a community meeting on Friday 7th November to discuss the expansion and the threat it poses to the woodland.
A vocal opponent of the expansion, Tom said he is “determined to stop Danone”, which owns Harrogate Spring Water, from cutting down and taking over the community woodland.
The meeting aims to bring together local leaders and residents to discuss the proposals, raise concerns and agree on the next steps to safeguard Rotary Wood.
It will be held at Harlow Green Hut Community Centre from 7pm – 8:30pm.
Tom said:
“Rotary Wood is a cherished part of our community, and we must do everything we can to protect it from being lost to a multinational corporation.
“This meeting is a vital opportunity for local residents to have their say, ask questions, and ensure their voices are heard.
“It is essential that the community’s opinion is clear before any decisions are made. I urge everyone to attend, get involved, and make their voices count – every response strengthens our case against this expansion.”
The event comes after North Yorkshire Councillors deferred a planning vote on Danone’s application.
It also follows Harrogate Spring Water’s release of survey data claiming local support.
Tom said he will work closely with Harlow’s Harrogate Town Councillor, Graham Dixon, to “gather clear evidence of community opposition.”
