Lithgow Perkins in Harrogate is expanding its apprenticeship programme to develop its next generation of finance professionals.

One of Harrogate’s oldest accountancy firms is looking to the future with an expanded apprenticeship programme aimed at developing its next generation of finance professionals.

Lithgow Perkins has more apprentices this year than ever before, with a quarter of its 20-strong team comprising trainees at different stages of their accountancy journey.

Nina Stimpson, Sophie Arthington, Sam Elliott and David Hopkins are all working towards Level 3 of their AAT qualifications. Their training covers a range of key areas including accounts, book keeping, VAT, returns and payroll.

Dylan Groves, meanwhile, is specialising in tax and is working alongside the company’s tax manager Stuart Abbott as he progresses towards his ATT chartered tax exams.

Partner Tom Rhodes, who began his own accountancy career as an apprentice at Lithgow Perkins 11 years ago, said:

“Having a strong apprenticeship programme that gives young people the opportunity to develop their careers with us is vital not just for their future, but for ours too.”

Tom said their apprenticeship programme had been honed in recent years to offer a broad foundation in the profession.

He added:

“As a small, independent firm, we can be flexible in creating opportunities for our trainees to work across a range of disciplines, supported by various specialists from our team.

“It’s not just a case of developing accountancy expertise; it’s also about building confidence in the ‘softer’ skills that are so important when dealing directly with clients.”
