The bridge at Halfpenny in Knaresborough is set to reopen this week, Northern Gas have confirmed.
The roadworks initially came into place on 25th March and were due to end 3 weeks later.
However, after repeated delays, the gas works continued throughout April and May, causing more frustration for motorists and residents.
But the works are now complete and will be cleared on Thursday (30th) or Friday (31st).
A Northern Gas Networks spokesperson said:
“The work was completed last Friday and the new gas main is now live. The road will be getting reinstated this week and the site will be cleared. If all goes well, the road should be back open either Thursday or Friday.
“I apologise for the disruption this has caused and how long the work has taken. Due to the nature of the gas main and the pressure, it required lots of paperwork and sign offs to complete.”
If you smell gas or suspect Carbon Monoxide, call the National Gas Emergency number on 0800 111 999 immediately.
