Harrogate Wellness and Leisure Centre will today (14th June) play host to a Brownlee Foundation event, set up by brothers Alistair and Jonny.
Yorkshire Triathlete brothers, Alistair and Jonny, set up their foundation so they can give something back to the community. They attribute much of their success to people they met as youngsters around schools, clubs and events who had a fantastic passion for sport.
Today (Friday 14th June) they have teamed up with Pho3nix Kids to bring an event to Harrogate that gives Key Stage 2 pupils an opportunity to try the disciplines of the triathlon.
Children will swim 3 sides of the pool at the Harrogate Wellness and Leisure Centre on Jenny Field Drive. They will then cycle 800m on grass and run approximately 300m, with all equipment provided and every child will receive a t-shirt beforehand, plus a medal and goody bag when they cross the finish line.
For less confident swimmers, a one width swim option is available; remaining in shallow water and scooters are available for children who are unable to ride a bike.
Speaking to Your Harrogate before today's event, Jonny said:
"After London (Olympics) 2012, a legacy was talked about a lot. We wanted to do our bit and so we set up the Brownlee Foundation. We have 14 events this year, so there'll be over 14,000 children who have done a triathlon through these events and it's all free."
He added:
"The kids turn up as part of their school, many have never heard of a triathlon before, never done a triathlon, but they complete one and then hopefully go on and continue to be active."

The event will run from 9.30am – 3.00pm and schools who have registered to attend, will be allocated a time slot for their students to take part upon arrival.
On the 13th and 14th July, the brothers will be at Ripon Race Course for the Ripon Triathlon Festival which will be open to all abilities.
Whilst Alistair has retired from Olympic Triathlon, Jonny Brownlee is hoping to be part of Team GB for the Paris Olympics and the games commence on 26th July.
