A Harrogate home arranged a trip to the local pub for its male residents in a bid to encourage conversations.
Five residents, Bill, Ray, Michael, Steve and Colin, who live at MHA Berwick Grange, were accompanied by activity coordinator Jaydee Blackett on a short journey to The Empress.
The idea came following a conversation Ray had with Jaydee when he asked her if he could have a drink.
Jaydee then decided to ask all the male residents in the home - and to her delight, they all said yes.
MHA Berwick Grange provides residential dementia and nursing dementia care for 52 residents.
Speaking after the visit, Jaydee said:
“It was wonderful to see all the residents having a great time.
“Some of them were enjoying it so much that they didn't want to come back!
“They were sharing stories with one another, comparing the drinks and telling each other what their favourite drinks are.”
Jaydee added:
“The aim of the trip was to make them feel a part of the community and have a good time in the process.
“It was great for some of the residents who usually prefer to keep themselves to themselves, getting involved.
“The pub was very accommodating and having them so close is quite handy.
“The trip was very successful, everyone had a great time and I am definitely going to be planning more in the future.”
