A Boroughbridge mum has completed a gruelling 100km challenge after her daughter underwent life-saving heart surgery as a newborn.
Danielle Nugent, 41, took on the Peak District Ultra Challenge alongside around 3,000 other participants, crossing the finish line after completing the event's longest distance.
The challenge was inspired by the support Danielle and her family received from the Children's Heart Surgery Fund after her daughter, Matilda, underwent open-heart surgery when she was just five days old.
The charity provided practical and emotional support throughout the family's time in hospital, helping them during one of the most difficult periods of their lives.
Ahead of the challenge, Danielle described it as one of the toughest physical tests she had ever attempted, expecting to spend more than 17 hours on her feet across the demanding 100km route.
She said the challenge meant far more than covering the distance, explaining she wanted to give back to the charity that had helped her family through Matilda's recovery.
The Children's Heart Surgery Fund provides support for children and adults living with congenital heart disease across Yorkshire and the surrounding region, as well as their families.
Its work includes providing food vouchers for families staying in hospital, emotional and psychological support, and gifts and keepsakes for young heart patients.
Reflecting on her motivation before the event, Danielle said the physical challenge was nothing compared to watching her newborn daughter undergo major heart surgery.
She hoped that by pushing herself to her limits, she could help ensure other families facing similar circumstances continue to receive the support they need.
Danielle was one of around 3,000 people to take part in this year's Peak District Ultra Challenge, with runners, walkers and joggers completing distances ranging from 10 miles to 100km.
Together, participants raised more than £800,000 for charities through the event.
