People in Harrogate are being encouraged to take part in this year’s Race for Life event, which is returning to the town this summer to raise money for cancer research.
Organised by Cancer Research UK, the event will take place on Sunday 5th July at The Stray. Participants can choose from 3k, 5k and 10k routes, with organisers stating that the event is open to people of all ages and abilities. Those who register between 23rd March and 19th April can receive a discounted entry fee as part of a promotional offer. Funds raised through Race for Life events contribute to research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer. The charity says the events play a role in supporting scientific work aimed at improving outcomes for people affected by the disease. Annabel Underwood, spokesperson for Cancer Research UK in Harrogate, said: “It’s time for Harrogate to go all in against cancer, all in to help fund life-saving research. “Sadly nearly one in two of us will get cancer in our lifetime, but all of us can support the research that will beat it. "Spring is an ideal time to commit to getting more active as the days get a little warmer. “We’d love for as many people as possible across Harrogate and Yorkshire and the Humber to join us. She continued. "Race for Life relies on a whole community of people coming together, united by a common purpose to beat cancer. “For those who enjoy a challenge, our 10k events will again be chip timed. But Race for Life is non-competitive. "People can walk, jog or run at their own pace. "What matters is taking part.” Since it began in 1994, Race for Life has seen more than 10 million participants across the UK and has raised significant funds to support cancer research.
