Newby Hall and Gardens is set to launch its most ambitious sculpture trail to date, celebrating the largest display in the 19-edition history of its biennial outdoor art exhibition.
Newby25 launches at the Ripon stately home on 20th June and will feature more than 60 sculptures by 27 nationally and internationally acclaimed artists.
Beginning for the first time outside Newby’s Roman statue gallery, the trail winds through the hall’s formal gardens, ancient woodland, and orchard, offering an inspiring journey through diverse artistic styles and mediums.
This year marks the debut of sculpture within Newby’s award-winning gardens, which recently received a gold medal at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show for a display inspired by its National Collection of Cornus.
Among the artists taking part in Newby25 is Leeds based David Watkinson whose kinetic sculptures have proved popular with visitors for their graceful movement and engineering finesse.
Blacksmith Katie Ventress, who is based on the Yorkshire coast has created a one-off piece for the sculpture trail with stained glass artist Janet Fraser.
‘Iridescent Omen’ – a magpie – exemplifies the fusion of traditional blacksmithing with vibrant stained-glass artistry.
Renowned British wildlife sculptor Hamish Mackie makes his debut at Newby Hall with three impressive works of art including a life-size bronze leopard climbing a tree, two majestic bronze roe deer and a striking interpretation of a Jurassic ammonite fossil crafted from cracked stainless steel - pieces that are set to captivate collectors and art enthusiasts alike.
