New girls' football initiative launched in Harrogate

The Girls' Skills Centre is being delivered by the Harrogate Town AFC Community Foundation.

A new girls' football initiative is set to kick off in Harrogate, offering fresh opportunities for young players across the district.

The Girls’ Skills Centre, delivered by Harrogate Town's Community Foundation, has been created for girls in Key Stage 2 who are either new to the game or looking to further develop their existing skills.

The programme is open to players of all abilities and aims to provide a 'welcoming and inclusive environment' where girls can build confidence and enjoy football.

Weekly sessions will take place on Monday evenings from 6pm to 7pm at York High School.

Each session will be led by the Foundation’s qualified and experienced female coaches, with a focus on delivering structured development in a positive and engaging setting.

Lynsey Barraclough, Head of Harrogate Town’s Community Foundation, said:

“The programme has been created to support the continued growth of girls’ football locally, reflecting the Foundation’s commitment to expanding opportunities for young female players in the Harrogate area.

“In addition to developing fundamental football skills such as dribbling, passing and shooting, sessions will also focus on teamwork, communication and building confidence both on and off the pitch.”

Sessions are tailored to ensure that each participant is appropriately challenged and supported in their development, whether they are completely new to football or already represent a school or grassroots team.
