Knaresborough Town Women win West Riding League Cup

Knaresborough Town Women sealed a memorable cup win after winning the West Riding League Cup in dramatic fashion.

The club won a penalty shootout against Thackley on Sunday (3rd May) to claim their first trophy of the season.

It caps off a remarkable season for the club, who also secured promotion for a fourth consecutive year after finishing second in the league.

In a closely contested cup final, Knaresborough faced a strong Thackley team and went into the break trailing 1–0 following a challenging first half.

Despite the setback, the side responded with an equaliser in the 85th minute to send the tie to a penalty shootout.

Knaresborough held their nerve from the spot, winning the shootout 3–2, with goalkeeper Maria delivering a standout performance by saving three penalties to secure the trophy.

A spokesperson for Knaresborough Town Women said:

“The girls showed incredible determination and character in the second half.

“With nerves of steel, and a standout performance from our keeper Maria - who saved THREE penalties - we secured a shootout victory.

“Champions. What a team.”
