Knaresborough school friends scale Yorkshire Peaks to raise £1,400 for Parkinson's

A group of friends from Knaresborough's King James School are fundraising for charity.

A group of friends from King James School in Knaresborough have turned a personal connection into an inspiring fundraising achievement - raising more than £1,300 for Parkinson's UK.

Annabelle, 13, along with her friends Olivia and Jessica, came up with the idea after seeing the impact Parkinson’s disease has had on their own families.

All three have grandparents affected by the condition, which led them to want to make a difference in a meaningful way.

Annabelle said:

“We wanted a challenge so we could raise money for the charity.

“Parkinson’s UK funds research into treatment and improves lives for people with it.”

With support from parents and friends, the group - also joined by younger participants Kamsi and Dubem - set out to climb two of Yorkshire’s highest peaks: Whernside and Ingleborough.

Annabelle said:

“It was really fun and we had some amazing views. We were a bit tired, but it was worth the challenge.”

Their campaign has already raised over £1,400.

The funds raised will go towards supporting Parkinson’s UK’s vital work, including research into new treatments and improving quality of life for those living with the condition.

The group hopes their effort will inspire others - especially young people - to take on challenges for causes they care about.

Donations can still be made via their fundraising page, as they continue to support the fight against Parkinson’s disease.
