Knaresborough Castle repairs finally set to get underway

Reparation works will get underway at Knaresborough Castle.

Reparation and restoration works are finally set to get underway at Knaresborough Castle, according to a local councillor.

Matt Walker, North Yorkshire Councillor for Knaresborough West, met with Council leaders to discuss the “long-promised” five-year plan for the Castle.

Matt said:

“I’m pleased to confirm that, over the coming weeks, planned maintenance and repairs will begin in earnest.”

The first major works will focus on specialist vegetation clearance from the main keep and sections of the historic perimeter walls.

This work is scheduled to start from late June and will help protect the historic stonework while improving the overall condition of the site.

Looking to the medium term, and recognising how sensitive and important the Castle is as a historic asset, a specialist conservation consultant has now been appointed.

Matt added:

“This plan will guide the long‑term protection, maintenance and future improvements of the Castle, helping to ensure it is properly cared for and preserved for generations to come.

“I look forward to celebrating the Castle's 900th birthday in 2030.”
