An 8-year-old Harrogate schoolboy has raised more than £1,100 for charity after organising two school-wide pyjama days.
Lennie Morrison, a pupil at Dacre Braithwaite, wrote to his headteacher, Mrs Dobbs, explaining why he wanted to raise money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and asking for permission to hold a fundraising event.
He wrote:
"I would like to help raise money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and need the help of our amazing school.
"The Yorkshire Air Ambulance is funded entirely by the generosity of the public and replies on the charitable donation of individuals to help save lives across Yorkshire.
"I would like to suggest that we could all come to school in our pyjamas and ask everyone to donate £1 to help raise money towards helping save lives and keeping the helicopters in the sky. You never know, one day we might need it!"
With Mrs Dobbs' support, Lennie arranged for pupils and staff to come to school in their pyjamas on 9th November in exchange for donations.
The first pyjama day raised £667. However, Lennie was unable to attend his own fundraiser after falling ill that day.
Determined to continue the effort, Mrs Dobbs organised a second pyjama day on 6th February to help build on the total.
The school community once again supported the event, helping to push the final amount raised to £1,154, surpassing the original £1,000 target.
Lennie’s mum, Leah, told Your Harrogate:
“We’re incredibly proud of Lennie and his enthusiasm and commitment to raising money.”
In addition to the school events, Lennie made his own collection boxes which were displayed at his family’s local car garage, NCR Services, and at a nearby pub.
