A Harrogate primary school has been celebrating children from military families within its community as part of 'Month of the Military Child.'
Pupils and staff at New Park Primary Academy, part of Northern Star Academies Trust, have come together by dressing in purple — the official colour symbolising all branches of the military.
The school also has a longstanding connection to the Army Foundation College on Pennypot Lane
Pupils have been taking part in a series of activities designed to highlight the distinctive lifestyle and challenges faced by military families.
The day was filled with opportunities to deepen understanding, build empathy, and celebrate diversity.
New Park’s Headteacher Sasha Bune, said:
“At New Park we are proud of our inclusive ethos, ensuring every child — whether they stay with us for a few months or several years — feels valued, supported, and celebrated.
“We recognise that military children often show incredible resilience and adaptability, and we are committed to supporting their unique needs, whether they are coping with a parent's deployment, transitions between schools, or building new friendships.
"Our military children bring a richness and depth to our school community and today is about recognising their individual journeys, offering support where it's needed, and celebrating the strength, kindness, and determination they show every day.
“We are equally proud to celebrate every child in our school and the vibrant, welcoming environment they help to create."
The event forms part of New Park's wider commitment to inclusion and community spirit, ensuring that all children — regardless of background or circumstance — thrive and feel at home.
As part of its ongoing commitment to provide an excellent education to all pupils, New Park is seeking volunteer governors to provide strategic guidance and community-based expertise.
