A Harrogate events company has stepped in to help Yorkshire Children’s Charity to support thousands of local children in need this winter.
The charity has identified 2,373 children across the region who are in critical need of basic essentials such as food, warm clothing and heating.
Of these, funding has been secured for 1,337 applications, leaving 1,036 children still waiting for support.
The charity says it needs a further £114,000 to meet the remaining demand.
The organisation has launched an appeal for both donations and volunteer assistance to help distribute winter essentials including coats, shoes, duvets and toiletries.
It estimates that £14 can ensure a child doesn’t walk to school cold and wet, while £50 can provide the basic items needed to help them arrive at school warm, dry, and ready to learn.
Harrogate events company Impulse Decisions is among those to have responded to the appeal.
The firm volunteered staff time to deliver coats, shoes and duvets to a school in Harrogate and others across the county, also covering the cost of donations for their local area.
The initiative forms part of Yorkshire Children’s Charity’s broader effort to support children classified as “destitute” under government guidelines - those who have experienced homelessness, hunger, or the absence of heating and essential items.
Charlotte Farrington, CEO of Yorkshire Children’s Charity, said:
“These are children in our region who have, by government guidelines, have deemed to be living in destitution.
"Which by definition, is when in a month, a child has slept rough for one or more nights, they have had fewer than 2 meals a day, their home has no heating or lighting for five or more days a month, they have inappropriate footwear and don’t have access to basic toiletries.”
James Marsden, CEO of Impulse Decisions, added:
“As a business based in Harrogate, it’s important to us that we give back to the community we’re part of. Partnering with Yorkshire Children’s Charity to provide coats and warm clothing for local children felt like a meaningful way to make a difference.
"No child should have to face the winter months without something as basic as a warm coat, and we’re proud to play our part in supporting families right here on our doorstep.”
