A 20km challenge is taking place tomorrow (Saturday) in aid of a local charity that supports the mental health conditions of mums perinatally.
The Mamas Matter CIC community are taking on their second annual “20 for the 20” fundraising challenge ahead of Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week.
They’ll set off from their base at Ripon and walk to Studley Royal and back several times, totalling a distance of 20 kilometres.
The distance is significant to the charity as it mirrors the 20 percent of mums experiencing mental health conditions perinatally.
The aim is to raise £2,500 keep the charity's crucial work going and to raise awareness.
Mamas Matter Founder Jo McGregor said:
“This years fundraising will help Mamas Matter CIC to strengthen their team’s resources and ensure they can keep all their services free to access.
“We're asking all our friends, families and all of you in the wider local community to dig deep and give whatever you can to help us get to that £2.5k target.
Mamas Matter supports mum’s mental health and wellbeing in Ripon, Harrogate and the surrounding areas through its three core offerings, which are all free to access:
- Mama & Me mindfulness courses
- Mamas Move postnatal-friendly exercise classes
- Mamas Meet-Ups, our drop-in peer support groups
It also provides regular pop-ups with other local like-minded community organisations.
Jo McGregor added:
“Our walkers aren’t taking on this challenge fundraising for fun (although some of us do love a laminated route map!) — we’re doing it because we know how important maternal mental health support is to families and know that every pound raised helps Mamas Matter keep showing up for local mums.”
